A wealth of experience
Over twelve years of experience in publishing in both the sciences and humanities, including previous positions at the American Institute of Physics (AIP), the Modern Language Association (MLA), and the corporate offices of Barnes & Noble/Nook. Freelance work experience in scientific/academic editing including peer-reviewed journal articles for The Optical Society (OSA), for Cactus Commuications, and for the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Houston as well as fiction and non-fiction books for Kirkus Reviews.
I believe the editing process is one in which the editor works cooperatively with the writer. My editing style focuses on maintaining the writer's voice and ideas and simply helping to find the clearest way to express them. To this end, I incorporate author queries in my editing to clarify meaning and also encourage my writers to ask questions about the edits I've made. I have particular experience working with writers for whom English is a second language, and I believe a good dialogue between writer and editor results in the most clear, concise writing possible.
